It's an excellent collection of stories. My granddaughter enjoys it a great deal.
Anyone who grew up with Eric Carle's imaginary creations will know this is just a a piece that will take you back. Make someone's Christmas light up.

Too wordy compared to his other stuff
I did come just before her bithday and thank you for my son it was good and thank you again.
My daughter loved the stories in this book so much that I am purchasing her a hardcover now that she is turning 18. She still goes back and reads these stories especially the Hans Christian Anderson ones. Her book is falling apart and she wants to take it to college next year. She is going to become an elementary school teacher. What better testimony of the quality of a children's book then one that still captures the imagination years after it is first opened and read.
Just a warning, some of the Grimm tales are pretty grim. The story of Big Klaus and Little Klaus, which I'd never heard before, features a man killing another man's horse, complete with (Eric Carle illustrated)picture of bloody ax and bleeding horse lying on the ground. It additionally features implied adultery and Little Klaus tricking Big Klaus into killing himself. Not too delightful if you ask me. My 3-year-old son liked some of the stories and pictures, especially the Aesop's fables. Just get that one unless you've actually read through these stories. The fairy tales of previous centuries are a bit rougher than what we're used to reading to our kids these days.
If you love stories, you'll really enjoy this. My students did. Also nice to add to your collection are: Aesop for Children (Winter), Grimm's complete fairy tales (Grimm), Great Children's stories (Richardson), The Butterfly (Singh). There are many other great children's books out there, but these were the ones I enjoyed the most. Oh, and I almost forgot the two classics that no children should ever be deprived of: The Little Prince (Exupery) and Charlotte's Web (White).
